11/25/2007 - back home

Dear friends & family, dear acquaintances and readers...

there will be no more waiting for new blog entries, for new stories...since this one is definitely going to be the last one. After only 2 weeks in Sydney, I decided that it was time to go home, back to my beloved family and friends. I felt like it was time for me to make myself a home - after having slept in so many different places for 10 months now. I could have picked a better season - the november weather in Germany is miserable - but I am nevertheless glad to be back. It's time to get into Christmas-mood!!!

I hope that you enjoyed my blog and I am still very open to comments from your part. It will take some time to sort out all my pictures, but  I promise that there will be a presentation in my new home!

Love,
Anika

10/18/2007 - new pix

we look like gypsies here...

Hi there, I am sorry that I have been so lazy about blogging. But Cris&I just enjoyed our time together so much that we did not want to spend it in internet Cafes. I am in Sydney by now, trying to cure my strained back and to get settled into a new country. I uploaded some pictures with some comments into the already existing folder. And I will write something in here again....soon.

Later,
anika

08/30/2007 - I love my family

This entry is personally directed towards my beloved family, which does not mean that you (in case you are not a member...) are not allowed to read it. That's why it is in english, too...

Before doing  the 'Elvis Cutaway' and the 'Pindrop', I DID have to sign a paper that basically said that I cannot direct any claims towards the firm in case of an accident...and that I am aware that watching me jump might cause severe psychological problems to family members... But I thought that this was only in case you were watching it live....

Only a day before, I was sure that I'd never jump off anything higher than 1m either...unless somebody paid me a big amount of money for doing so. And you probably think that I spent my hard earned money for a joy that does not even last 1min.... How wrong you are...

The story goes as follows: having lived in Queenstown, the 'adrenaline-center' of New Zealand for so long, I had wanted to do a photo-documentation of everything you can throw yourself into, like Skydiving, Jetboating, Bungy jumping - or Canyon Swinging. But then I found out that it costs 30$ just to have ACCESS to the sites, not including the acitvity itself. I decided that this was way too expensive for me and abandoned the idea again...until I met this guy called Harry in the climbing gym. We got along well, went out to the movies (The Lives of Others - Das Leben der Anderen) and talked about each others' jobs. I promise, I just asked him to take me to the location to be able to take some pictures. But faster than I could see, I found myself with a harness on. And his argumentation, that even his mother jumped down put me under some sort of pressure. Even Helen Clark, the NZ prime Minster (yes, a woman, and she looks even more manly than Angela Merkel) did it... So... ???

And, I must admit: it was so much fun! I'd do it again, gladly, if only it was not so expensive. It did not cost me a penny though, or as Harry sais: It helps to have friends in high places. He saved me around 260$...

But now to my family. You are gorgeous. I hope it did not cause any severe damage. My friend Uta (who I consider part of my family) draws a connection to giving birth - where you also have to go through something that scares you and screaming can be some sort of relief... My mother warns me about loosing ground underneath my feet and tries to stop my father from expressing some sort of respect for what I did, when he'd be way too scared to do anything like that...and my brother-in-law-to-be compares the danger of jumping with a harness to the danger of driving without a seatbelt. We all know who loves to expose himself to that risk!

Well, I have felt safe, falling at ca. 150km/h (very well estimated, Patrick!) into a fantastic scenery, sitting in a very comfortable harness. From now on, I will probably travel at the speed 80km/h again, sitting in a comfortable seat - provided we will get Signor Rossis acceleration padel fixed again. Thank you so much for your comments.

Love you,

anika
