About El Roble
El Roble, that is the deutsche Eiche, or for you, the German Oak. Please don't worry my national list since we are very underdeveloped. My second name is Gartner and that was always something between an omen and a duty for me. From Germany seeds where  brought to Paraguay and within six years they are beautiful 5 metre tall trees. Where:

To the North East of Paraguay where soya bean and corn fields are the exception and you one can enjoy the old and peaceful side of the country. Four car hours from Asuncion, 16 km east from concepcion and 2km south from Belen at the old dirt road number 5 you can find us.
The co-ordinates for Google Earth are puntero 23 (0) 27 (1) 20(.) 22(11) South 57(0) 16 (1) 46(.) 58(11) Flying on a hight from 2894 feet you have El Roble completly on the screen. Our location is perfect for trips through the Chaco, to the town of Concepcion, river trips on the ypane and the Rio Paraguay.

How to arrive:
You reach Concepcion with the bus from Asuncion via the chaco (5 hours - 10 us dollars)
From Ciudad Del Este (8 hours aprox - 20 US dollars)
Santa Cruz Bolivia, without rain ( 20 hours - 100 US dollars to Pozo Colorado change bus for concepcion)
Pedro Juan Cabello (5 hours 10 US Dollars)

From the airport at Asuncion you can charter a plane to Concepcion.

The most interesting way to arrive is on either of the two river boats that travel from Asuncion each week. (36 hours aprox, 15 - 125 US Dollars.) Food is included, but it is reccomended that you provide your own.

We pick you up where ever you are in paraguay by truck. There is a fixed price per km of 25 cents. Male hitch hikers have good possibilities, female even better, but because of the excessive testosterone of Paraguayan machos it is not a very good idea.

What to do at El Roble:
Our special clients from (Dec-March) are the Mennonites from the chaco. They come for fishing, enjoying the richness of the fertile land, preparing their own barbacues of locally caught fish and meat from the farm, or to taste the homemade, home produced Paraguayan and German food. El Roble is also a paradise for their children with a small swimming pool, tree house, play area, animals - small caimen, turtles, rabbitts, nose bears, giant lizards and parrotts and lots of space for games.

Our expierence with backpackers is that they can be a little sceptical about whether they really need to stay in the comfortable well fed attmosphere of El Roble, but that after the food and mossquito free night they diagnoise themselves with travel sickness and prescribe a cure of several days or weeks relaxing on the farm. At times they also join working trips to remote parts of paraguay where they can see what normal tourists never can.
For specialists we organise tours:
- fish for fisherman
- fish for aquerian
- ornopholigists
- anephebian reptalian
- orchids

El Roble
Concepcion, The Place to See in Paraguay
Email contact: jdml402@hotmail.com

Travel Dates: Jan 30, 2008 - Feb. 16, 2008
Weather Conditions: Sunny and Hot, with a heavy rain once a week
Route & Terrain: Bus from Asunción to Concepción. 5 hour journey for G 60,000 (US$14)
Trip Essentials: Camera

Most come here for a boat trip up the river Paraguay. Boats fill quickly heading upriver. But heading down river should not be a problem. Very rough conditions. The trip cost G50,000 (US$12), and an additional G30,000 for a cabin. The cabin is small and dirty and there are only a few and they are booked weeks in advance. One day on the river is plenty. The trip all the way to Bahia Negra is self inflicted pain in the name of backpacking.

The BEST PART of paraguay is El Roble, a german owned farm about 15KM north of Concepción. Unbelieveable Experience. Peter, the owner, has built a small paradise oasis on 40 Hectares of land in between Concepción and Belen. Beautiful accomidations with fan, AC, fridge, nice bathrooms with hot water. Camping also available. A natural spring fed pool. Nearby river beautiful and great for swimming. It includes 3 home cooked meals a day. If your burnt out on empanadas and steak this is the place to be. Fresh juice of all varietes, and the best food with tons of vegetables, and tons of flavor and spice if you like. Everything but the potatoes are grown on his farm.

He doesn´t get many tourist and you can tell he really enjoys having westerners around to talk to and show around. You´ll see the Real Paraguay side of life. We went to Agricultural schools, bread factories, local homes, trips on the river, saw beautiful archeticutre in isolated rural towns. Incredible experience. He´s also an expert on local flora and fauna.

Price varies depending on the sleeping quarters you choos. But everything is included in the price, laundry, food, tours around town and to the nearby river. He really wants to show you a great time. It´s not touristy and great fun. Get there before he´s discovered by Lonely Planet. It´s awesome!

His house has boars, geese, caiman, turtles, frogs, lizards, fish ponds, all sorts of parrots. He rahabilitates abused birds to release back into the wild. Absolutely beautiful.

And the BEST FOOD in South America.

The name is El Roble.

Getting There: Taxi, tell any taxi driver el roble, KM 16 toward Belen. The cost is approx. G70,000 ($16)
Bus, buses to Belen run every other hour. The cost is G5,000 ($1). Tell the driver to let you off at El Roble KM 16 toward Belen.
It´s a dirt road and he has a big sign that says El Roble keep your head up and you can´t miss it.

Phone calls go through an operator at a switch board and lines fall often, so it may be difficult to get through.

Check it out. It is a wonderful experience.
