Work in proress: Knit Star Trek pyjama guys

{ 19:01, 9.04.2009 } { Geschrieben in Stricken KNITTING } { 0 Kommentare } { Link }

These three guys have been resting in a yarn bin for more than ten years now. At that time, I have made lots of them, I remember giving many away as presents to friends, besides these who never got finished, or in the case of the finished Vulcan red shirt, got chewed on by my puppy. This made me lose interest on the dolls for a long time, but I never could bring myself to get rid of them either. So now, with the nice spring sunshine, and people on craftster getting in the mood for the new Star Trek movie, I suddenly felt like I wanted to do some Star Trek crafting, and got them out again. Not certain if I will see the movie, but right now, I have patched up the torn Original series guy and closed the seams on the DS9 guy.
Next step is giving them hair and a face, and give the TNG guy shoes.
They will never be the best of my crafting, for all the wonky bits I have discovered, but they are cuties and should get at least a chance.

Look at how I had embroidered the face:

I stitched on a nose and eyebrow ridges in the skin color, and then added eyebrows, eyes, lid and mouth in black. The ears are supposed to be pointed, sort of...
I was pretty surprised to see how detailed I worked on the face at that time. I'm pretty proud of that. Let's see if I can still do this kind of face.

Mario mushroom hat

{ 18:50, 9.04.2009 } { Geschrieben in Stricken KNITTING } { 1 Kommentare } { Link }
This is a little hat I knit for a swap, a Mario mushroom hat. The hat is knit, the dots are crochet with a bit of stuffing.
I had expected this to be an easy project, but somehow I managed to get some extremely stupid mistakes into the red part, and only realized it when I had knit several rows over it. I gave up on the hat for some time and tried to make it in crochet which was even worse, so I just patched up the bad parts in this with the white dots, and it turned out cuter than I had thought.
My swap partner liked it!

Bella's mittens from Twilight

I made these for a swap:

If you watch the trailer, in the scene where Bella is saved from the car crash, she wears mittens like these. There is a pattern for them on craftster, and I was so in love with them that I had to make them. Only, I didn't have the time, because of my swaps. So I made them for a swap. My swap partner turned out to be a big Twilight fan, which was just lucky for her. She would have gotten them anyway :)

And because it was a Naughty Word swap, I stitched this onto them:

Added: My vampire mittens got blogged on geekcrafts! Yay!

R2D2 hat of horror

{ 14:50, 16.12.2008 } { Geschrieben in Stricken KNITTING } { 0 Kommentare } { Link }
Hi superhooker, look at this crappy hat. Do you like it? I feel a bit embarassed to offer to you a thing I do not like. I had a lot of trouble with the tension of the yarn. I could fix some of it, but there are still some parts where the knitting gets uneven (it shows pretty well in the picture). It will always look like the first intarsia someone has ever made. :(On the other hand, it IS an R2D2 hat, and I could finish it within one day. So if you think your kid will like it, it's yours. Err, his.

Spiderman hat progress picture

This is a progress picture of the spiderman hat I am making for a swap. Hi sajona, hope you like it! The size should be okay, it fits everyone in the family :) I tried to make this in cotton, but it turned out I wasn't able to get it right, but when I tried super soft wool, it was like turning a switch, and the hat grew rapidly. Until I tried some funny stuff with a knitted spider pattern. I had to do the red part four times, I think, until I was fed up with experiments of any kinds and decided to add the spiderweb afterwards. The web parts are crocheted into the knitting. Works fast and fine, hope to finish today.

This is how I take it easy on swaps: Doing the next swap project :) A  little bumblebee hat. I just couldn't resist the cuteness.
